Weather and climate

In Finland the climate is very different compared to the other participating countries. Our summers are warm/mild and our winters are cold and full of snow. During the summer the temperature is about 10-25°C and in the winter the temperature might drop down to -25°C or less. Because of our climate we have very different activities during the winters than during the summers. In the winter we can go cross country skiing, downhill skiing, sledging, snow shoeing, ice fishing, ice skating, play ice hockey and play various snow games. One of our specialities is ice swimming in the frozen lake. In Finland's meeting the guests had the chance to try ice swimming and smoke sauna. Another speciality is skating and skiing on the frozen lake. In the summers we do the basic things such as running, hiking, cycling etc. We have a special right called 'every man's right' which allows us to move freely in the nature and pick berries or mushrooms without harming the forest. Also under 18-year-olds can fish without a permission. We have public orienteering marks in the forests and you can print the maps from the net if you want to go orienteering. We think the weather in Finland is very nice because of our four seasons and our changing climate. We have gotten used to different weather conditions and because of that, it's easy to adapt to the weather in other countries. Also, we have a good opportunity to do variable sports during the year.
